I stay at my place of work for this reason alone, I've worked here for 7 years, if I get made redundant at the present Abbey rate I would get around £15,000 quid
Thats a lovely deposit on a house.
I can dream.

its a little different over here....
once your in a job over 2 years your entitled to STATUTORY redundancy..
this is 2 weeks wages for every year of service and is tax free.. your job pays you this and then they can claim it back off the government.
afte that you job can decided to give you an EX-GRATIA amount of money... but there not obilged to... they can just give you the statutory amount.
there is a tax free allowance on the ex-gratia amount of 15500....I.E anything over that you have to pay tax on...
my job decided to give us 6 week wages for every year of service inclusive of the statutory amount... so that is 2 week statutory and 4 weeks ex-gratia for every year of service...
then i had 6 untaken holidays... so that was added on... but you have to pay tax on the holidays...
so about 100 quid in tax out of the 25k.... not bad
