Tyler Durdon is an alter ego. He looks like E.N. wants to look, fucks like he wants to fuck e.t.c... Edd Norton's charecter knows his name, however the audience don't.

i'm watching it now ed. i understand the premise of the film.

but if you watch it again, you too will realise that norton and pitt are both called tyler durden, but norton doesnt seem to know that til the end.
