For the BMW M3 CSL the difference between running 95 octane fuel and Tesco 99 Octane fuel was over 40bhp, that’s over 10%

i know, Performance Ford mag did a similar thing, but they tuned the ignition timing with each fuel too. they found massive gains with optimax on a big power turbo engine.

but we all know that decent fuel means more power, or F1 cars would run on Pump fuel.

rob, in my opinion, its not about what octane rating the fuel is, but from who you decide to purchase from. i refuse to step foot or tyre onto a BP forecourt after receiving 2 bad tanks at different times. i thought to myself, "what are the chances of it happening again" Shell Optimax all the way for me, sometimes i spoil the spaniard with a tank of 101RON Optimax Extreme hehe

in short:

if your cars engine is designed/ your ecu has been remapped to run on high octane fuel then its worth using it

if you drive an everyday n/a petrol car then theres no point.

but if you have a det problem then it would have been better to get the ignition map adjusted rather than put that stuff in it.

the book for my VTR says it is designed for 98 ron fuel but will run on 95 ron with reduced performance

no garage near me does 98 ron only 97 ron so an octane booster wouldnt go a miss tbh and im sure its the same for most cars

just remember that you can actually damage your engine by putting the wrong mixture of octane boost and petrol in it.

I would rather run a 97 ron fuel than a 97 ron fuel with that chav stuff in it.
