Not always ICV causing bad idling and stalling, usually a dirty throttle body. My corsa used to idle horribly, after I rebuilt the engine (which wouldnt change anything), I took all the inlet parts and cleaned them with brake cleaner. Idles much smoother!

But yeah to answer your question, it isnt too hard. I presume you have a gsi as thats whats in your avatar. Would me less than an hour, but I would give yourself a couple, as it will be the first time you do it I suppose. Take off upper inlet section, remove secondary air pump, (if you have one), remove throttle body, unplugging all the wires from it first, and remove the idle control valve, and replace/clean. And in the words of haynes "refitting is the reverse of removal!"

Take it out, soak it in carb cleaner and brush down with an old tooth brush. Give the TB a good clean too.
