Picked this up for £160, here's the progress so far...

Project Sport

Ok, here's the car...

Vauxhall Astra Sport
1994 (M)
Originally a 1.8 16v Ecotec, now a 2.0 16v XE

I bought it with the following needing doing...

- HG Gone
- Windscreen Cracked
- Foglight Cracked
- Wing Mirror Cover Missing
- Bonnet bubbling (bird poo) and front bumper stone chipped

So first thing was to get her home, and give her a damn good clean...

Next was to have the Windscreen replaced, 2nd hand screen was £80 fitted, guy did a top job aswell. By now the paintwork issue was starting to bug me, so i spent a day with a Pressure washer (on all the door trims, rubbers etc to get rid of green & moss) and Clay Bar, and a good polish. Engine also was shined up.

Also bought these, however small front plate is a bit *too* small so will be replaced with a larger one

And since i sold the original Sport wheels (very kerbed etc) i decided to get another set, and refurb them. They have been rubbed down tonight, and first coat of primer has gone on to show where i need to fill/rub a bit more.

Ok, so on went the paint, followed by the lacquer. Very very happy with the results, just goes to show with some patience you can do a good job yourself. I've spent £40ish on paints and prep materials, and was quoted £20 per wheel, so i've saved myself £40

Ok, so today i thought seeing as the weather is nice-ish, ill rip out the headlights and front idicators for smoking.

No pictures of the process, but basic jist is to heat up the sealant around the edge, take the lense off, rub down to get the shine off the chrome, prime, paint (matt black) and lacquer)

One of the headlights all out...

And one side back in and smoked...

Also managed to get my mirror cover on today as the lacquer had dried overnight, however still needs cutting back to get the shine

Unfortunatly no completed pics of the lights yet as i cracked the passenger lense (didnt heat itup enough) so need to get a new one this week and get the job finished

Impressive

Not bad for £160 even at the start! Should make a nice project car and make you a nice tidy profit when you come to sell it!

Little update :

6000K HID's arrived night before last.

Headlight is on its way, have busy weeks and not much time over the weekends so i've ordered a 2nd hand online (£10)

Also fixed one of the "projector" foglights last night as one was rattling around in the housing, this will replace the ordinary foglight at the weekend (currently have 1 ordinary, and 1 projector).

Also debadged the sidestrips last night (still have the sidestrips, just with no chrome "sport" written on them), she no longer gives any hint of being a sport on the exterior, i'll debadge the tailgate this weekend.

I wasn't 100% happy with the finish on the indicators, they looked a bit too 'DIY' upclose, so i've ordered some proper smoked ones.

Ok, another update.

Here are the pictures of her debadged (which i did the other night)

I had a go at DIY'ing my indicators (smoked) however the finish didnt quite come out how i wanted it to (sealing them back up) so i ordered some crystal smoked ones. Theres arrived this morning, and as i already had 1 headlight back in, i popped one of the indicators in...

Next i wanted to get the callipers painted, seeing as im trying to keep attention to the car down (I.E.keep her as sleeper as possible) i decided to go for black....

Oops... got a bit of paint on the disks, however i went shopping this morning...

Full set of Mintex disks and pads, nothing fancy, but the best for the money where replacing standard parts are concerned.

Tomorrow the engine is being checked out to see if the HG really has gone, as she runs sweet as a nut! So until then...

Why didn't you take the calipers off to paint them?

Ok, tonight i tried to revive the back box (with not much luck) so i'm on the hunt for the same one, i've been told its a standard gsi mk3 or mk2 gte jobbie, any help on this one?

And i've got some pics of the newly smoked front end, as you will see its probably more "stealth" than standard (i.e. darker)

Thats all for now... folks

Lookin good

Will be interested to see what the xenons come out like, as I've got a mate who's looking at getting some, and I am considering it for a project in the future!

Would it be possible when your doing it to do 1 side standard, 1 side xenon and a full before and after pic please?!

btw, if you're going stealth, reckon you should go for a subtle single round backbox - 3inch maximum to keep it stealth
