I was stopped by the police on friday night, i knew it was coming as they had a car stopped in tesco carpark in dingwall and they were noise testing the exhaust,...

they followed me about for a while then decided to stop me at a busy junction so i carried on till it was safe to stop.

police officer asks me to get out of my car as they are going to carry out a noise test on my *illegal* exhaust, i said there's nothing illegal about it but carry on if you want to,

i stood outside the car with the other officer as the previous cop revved my car, 1000revs, 2000revs not loud at all, whilst taking it up to the final stage of 3000revs he revved it right up to arounf 5500revs, so car read 96.6db

i asked the officer with me what the legal limit was and he shrugged his shoulders and said "whatever is standard" at this point i laughed at the copper who obviously didnt have a clue, i also asked why they didnt measure 5feet from the car and place the db reader on a tripod but didnt get an answer, "in the back of the police car please"

while in the back before i was charged i asked to see a calibration certificate, "hahaha we dont have to show you that" to which i replied "you dont have 1 thats why" they offered me a £30 fine and made it sound as if they were doing me a favour, i refused, i said i would go to court,

now they currently follow me everywhere in the hope ill do something else wrong to give them levy in court, but ill keep doing 30mph and making 96.6db doing it untill the court tells me otherwise

sorry for the essay, but they really annoy me, especially the ones who treat you like a 5year old and they dont have a clue themselves!!!

from my experience even though cops are alot of the times in the wrong it is always best to just agree with them and let them move onto the next 'boyracer'. you arnt doing yourself any favours getting cheeky with them as they will eventually find something wrong with your car and do you for the maximum penalty.

however, it did sound harsh what they did as it sounded like they hadnt a clue what they wer doing and just wanted to fine you for anything. and if i was you id be very pissed off if some copper sat in my car revving the tits off it for no reason

Nice work Shep.

I shut a police officer up once, under similar circumstances and it was very satisfying indeed.

i agree N90ATH

but they weren't the type to listen, there are a lot of sound coppers out there who wont bother young lads for such things as exhausts and window tints etc...

but then there's always going to be a select few who are going to have this hatred for young lads who spend money on cars,

whilst my car was being noise tested there was a pub about 100yards away, there was a fight in the middle of the bloody road and they carried on (trying) to shaft £30 out of me?

Bet you'd like them enough if your car got nicked and you wanted them to help get it back/find out who it was that took it

They are also there to keep the road safe, If youve done nothing wrong/illegal whats the problem? Yeh some may be cocky, but if you act like a prick theyll treat you like one.
Oh and for the record im not a police bummer, i hate speed cameras and coppers that pick on modified car owners just "because"

for all the right reasons though. young people have more accidents, young people cause more accidents, young people take more risks.

the police showing their presence in one way or another makes people take less risks.

reedy

i've been pulled afew times once in my old car, once in my new one. my old car was a completely standard 1.0 12V and he was laying the "you want to be more careful you know" trip on me, he had pulled me for doing 40 in a 30 on a completely dead road going through an industrial estate not far from my house as i was coming home from work, i was polite to him and he let me off, we even had a chat about chap insurance for his son etc.

the second time i got pulled was in my latest car, the 1.6 sport with a stripped out cat, no middle box, and magnex exhaust, its fairly loud. all he said to me was "have you got your license on you?" so i handed it over and read "Andrew brian roberts, do you know brian roberts?" and i said "yes, he's my dad" and all he said was "alright then, on your way." my dads a sergeant at a local police station and knew the fella that pulled me over, result.

from past experience i used to ride a BMX and were always getting hassled by the police, found then too, be sound to them, they're likely to be sound to you

fact is if your car gets stolen it doesnt get found, its just another bit of paper for them to deal with,

they wont go out looking for your car, but if they so happen to come across it, they'll realise it was reported stolen (only if relevant checks are done)

get assaulted (sp) in the street they wont find out who did it, just send you on your way,

another case of the police not helping (just my expierience)

my town was fitted with £10000's worth of cctv, i was on the street one saturday with my girlfriend doing shopping, and 3lads beat the hell out of me, about 30feet from one of the cctv cameras, no police showed up, i had to sustain a beating, with my g/f watching, after being to hospital i went to the police station to report what had happened,

the officer took a statement but at the end told me it was highly unlikley that they would catch any1, i said what about the cameras that have just been installed? i was told that they pointed the wrong way,

after several days a police officer got in touch saying they had found somebody for the assault (sp) i was delighted, thought some justice at last but no,

3days later i was charged with breach of the peace as all his mates stuck up for him,

i had to go to court 3times over this matter to get the charges dropped,

i find the police force in certain areas an absoloute disgrace,

they talk down to everybody, well there no more special than the next person that passes me in the street, everyones arsehole points down the way

sorry for another essay

Yeh cops are strict on young drivers and to be fair they have reason to be, a lot of them have false confidence in their driving skills, i admit, i had it and within 2 months of passing my test i had an accident, it scared the shit out of me because my mrs was in the car with me and i could of seriously hurt or even killed her because i was driving like a cock. Certainly taught me a lesson and slowed me down.

[Edited on 10-09-2006 by daz_SRi]

but thats just tarring every1 with the same brush,

thats like me saying all coppers are tossers, cos i was stopped by 1 who was a tosser,

not all young driver are idiots, and im 21 passed my test 4years ago,
i dont go racing my mates about the town,

so shep, where is the police's fault you were beaten up? the cameras were installed, i can pretty much guarantee it wasnt the police that installed them, and it wasn't their fault that the lads that beat you up got you done for breach of the peace, thats the flaws within the law, not the police force as far as i can see

I think the problem is alot of people who become police officers, are sheepish people who have been pushed around all their lives, or just people who like being c*nts in general. What reason did they have to pull our fellow corsa driver over and test his exhaust for noise levels. A noise test isnt carried out on an MOT so is it a legal requirement? NO! Also how f*cking loud are their f*cking sirens that they decide to turn on when ever they get stuck in traffic? "Whatevers standard" ? what a bunch of bullshit, they just had nothing better to do than pick on an innocent motorist! I dont know why people are accusing this guy of being rude to them, it is your right to ask questions, wasnt as if he was threatening or rude. Traffic cops are f*cking idiots with a licence to f*ck you over.
