I knew it needed 2 new tyres but put it in anyway, and it failed
Going to need the front tyres for definate, backs are borderline, rear brake line needs replacing and side repeaters need orange bulbs. Funny as the clear ones were ok last year!
Left it with them to fit 4 new tyres and the other bits.....

Car had 45k on when I bought in Aug 2003, just gone past 57k now
Tyres are Yokohama AVS Sports.
Can't really afford to run it anymore. I'm on 3.5k less a year now.

Obviously 4WD cars don't wreck their tyres as quick as 2WDs, as long as they only have sensible power.
I managed to finish the rears on my V8 (Continentals) in 4 months and just under 3k miles.
F.N.S. outer shoulder is fairly feathered from all the cornering abuse and roundabout activity too.

Not quite MOT costs, but this weekend I've had to shell out £350 to get my Astra serviced, new HT leads, new rocker cover gasket, new water pump, and full cam belt kit. Should be picking it up from my mechanic later tonight hopefully.

In that case they were over inflated Marc.
Try running 2 - 4 psi less in the new ones and check wear regularly.
Do you know what pressure you had the old tires set at?

If that's what you had them on Marc, i'd definitely knock 2 or 3 psi off the pressure setting for the two that wore in the middle.
Check them with a depth gauge every few hundred miles or sooner if you have the time, and adjust the pressure accordingly mate.
Underinflated will wear and feather the shoulders, and over inflated will always bald the middle of the tyre.
This can be expensive as it is easy to miss, especially on rear tyres, and you can end up with an expensive and comparitively new tyre ruined by over inflation.

I'll check what they set them to when I get it back. I wouldn't call mine nearly new though!!

That is true Marc.
But if you put 38 psi in a brand new tyre that should run at 28 it will be bald in the middle in no time at all.

I use prodrive reccomendations for 17`s as wheel in terms of tyre size and pressure, id like to hope they know what they are talking about.

I watched you light up the rears at the pod when it was about two weeks old
