I have a 1995 1.4 SRi16v and it has an intermittent fault that's been going on for about a year now.
When I try to accelerate there's barely any power and the car will judder along, then sometimes if I ease my foot off the pedal a bit it'll suddenly pick up and get back to normal. It's almost as if there's not enough fuel getting through then it suddenly unblocks itself.
This doesn't tend to happen in higher gears but can be very dangerous when I try to enter heavy traffic and I'm struggling to get above 30mph in 3rd gear.
Strangely it only does this when it's been raining so I presume it's an electrical fault but could really do with some help on this.
Cheers

it keeps the belt tight, i had a problem with my tensioner and it was doing the same as you describe, not sure about the wet thing
but was really slow to pull away as if something was getting up to speed etc

check the grommet on the drivers side, where the engine loom goes through the firewall (looking from the front, to the left hand side of the wipers)
water sometimes gets through here, and onto the ECU connections below, which can cause this problem

Mine did this when I first bought it, but since then I have completely stripped the shell, repainted it, and rebuilt the engine and I havent got it back in yet! But I would have thought its either a misfire or electrical problem.
