Generally speaking, street lights 30mph and no street lights national speed limit. A 40 will be sign posted.

yea but the road im after looking up is a fair few miles away..
it was an 'A' road aswell..

Only if there is street lights,
There are loads of roads round my way that have the national sign at the beginning and there are no more signs until you get to the 30-40 at the other end
