Theres a home brewing shop near me, my mate used to brew his own bitter and lager. It cost him about £40 for a brewing bucket and the ingredients. He used to make around 6ltrs at a time, and it tasted pretty good! The fermenting process is smelly though!

thats what im doing at the mo, my folks have a huge jar of it tucked away thats 2 years old and ive got a jar thats nearly a year old. tried some the other day and it certainly had a kick to it, so the stuff your dad has will probably blow your head off

turns the gin really sweet and is easy to drink neat

Used to make quite a few different things, ages ago...

My dad used to make beer (not brilliant), wine (80% decent stuff), vodka (awful), cherry brandy (nice), cointreau (nice), and a few others...

I've made peach schnapps, a few years back, and it came out tasting like schnapps but with the strength of spirits......it had somewhat of a kick!

I had a go at it once, runined it and didnt try again. With practice im sure most people could make a reasonable beer.
