Taken from another site
5 year old Saxon is a GSD police dog, in Wales, Despite Saxon being an excellent and loyal police dog for a number of years, and having saved his handler from injury or death on numourous occasions, the police force has decided not to re-licence him as a police dog.
For no apparent reason, and despite the handler being desperate to keep Saxon as a dearly loved pet, the "powers that be" want him destroyed. In their words, it is the "RESPONSIBLE THING TO DO" !!!!
Please please sign the petition to save Saxon and leave a few words of support at:
http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?k9saxon&101
The Daily Mirror is going to run an article about him and he may be appearing on Richard & Judy, but the more electronic signatures we can collect, the better his case will look.
Also see Saxon's story on the BBC Wales News at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/5211180.stm
and South Wales Argus at http://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/display.var.847806.0.clamour_to_save_police_dog_saxon.php

TBH, until you see the kind of treatment that dogs get in asian countries first hand, this really isnt much news at all.

Sorry but there must be a reason? I'm not an expert on police dogs but surely they don't just go around destroying dogs for the sake of it

they have been trained to kill, therefore unsuitable for rehabilitation, therefore they are destroyed

Sounds fair enough to me then. Either re use it or kill it. Not safe for the public and it's forfilled it's purpose.
Sounds harsh but it's probably the best thing to do. For a start, imagine if it was a pet and then killed two kids, what would everyone be saying?

dog will do what HE tells it to do thats it and he knows the responsibilities of keeping such a dog then why not
p.s if they do kill they are destroyed straight away as not meant too

Do you think there's a need for a "help kill saxon" petition?

The dog's trainer has begged to keep it, as he has obviously trained it, I think if he wants to continue using saxon and if he's still in good condition then why not.

its not a pet, its a tool
F1 drivers don't take the F1 cars home when they finished with them

Exactly, as much as i hate to say it it would probably be best destroyed...if it killed a child then imagine the reaction the british public would have

the people who want to keep the dog live in the middle of nowhere
the only children it will be in contact with is thier own which the dog knows
doubt they would sue the police after it hurts one of thier children and not only that the children have been looking after the dog since the handler has had it and nothings happened
any dog is capable of biting someone regardless of whether its been trained as a police dog
and as for it being a tool, ex police cars are sold off not crushed and ex police themselves retire happily not executed
