Sorry if this is a re-post!!
This is a link to a thread posted on the Rotary owners club site, it has caused some major up roar and has affected many many car owner clubs across the country, if you are insured with adrain flux, the likely hood is that your insured through an underwriter called Highway insurance, its this company which is causing the problem,
http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28074
Gist of story, club goes to a meet at a drag strip, a convoy pulls into a slip road on the M25, owners car bursts into flames as a result of a loose fuel pipe, insurance company won't pay, the rest you can find out for your selves, but i am NEVER getting insured with Highway again, this is totally unacceptable!
*note - pay attention to the copy of the letter, towards the bottom it states that they have searched him down on the internet and tracked him to various clubs including the one mentioned along with his posts and user name
think twice before you post anything.... no wonder they want to know the club/forums details when you sign up!!

on you policy i'm sure its says the car is to be used for private, social travel.
if they track his posts and see he been doing anything outside this they dont have to pay...

Really...so you're not allowed to go on track days unless you notify your insurance? (I mean obviously most people would get seperate track day insurance)

i think if you did notify most of them they would probably want to cancel your policy

I think this comment is the bit you all need to worry about
"Just spoke to Hyperformance who have insured me with highway, They say that highway are backed by lloyds so most insurance companies are the same.
Bloke on the phone could not understand why i would want to move my policy! he was just reading from his sheet in front of him,
I said am i covered if im driving up the road and my car bursts into flames,
Well err no, not if it wasnt vandalism or robbery.
But this is total rubbish cos i have seen countless lorrys and cars on fire on the M25 and never heard of them not paying out.
I think this case needs to be made an example of like the police do to us.
They cant be let to get away with it, Other wise why do we need insurance!!!!
Oh i forgot, to pay for all those fraudsters claiming whiplash"

for those who havnt read it
remember the rx7 that caught fire not so long back
well insurance arnt paying out because of mechanical failure
then they added a load of other bits in like they think he had nos fitted and he was going to race it on a track even though he said he wasnt on the phone.
they took proof from an internet forum

As in car bursts into flames ON the strip, gets pushed out onto the road and claim is made from there?

I'm quite sure they couldn't refuse a claim unless there were reasonable grounds to do so, which in this case sounds like there's a load of policy crap in the small print.
I've said for long enough - cheap insurance is exactly that - there are numerous examples of people being messed about by 'specialist' insurers as they're the only people who take boy racer stuff on, and therefore have to scrimp and save wherever they can to pay out for legitimate claims in which people crash in to expensive stuff and the driver of the expensive stuff has good legal representation, and they wouldn't dare dishonour a claim. If you're some guy with a modified car which catches fire, you're clearly out of luck.

Just thanking my lucky stars Choice Direct insure me through Axa. Was well chuffed when I asked if I could take the car on the track at croft, their reply "Have fun sir and dont worry, you're covered" certainly made my day. Only cost me £20 for the track day to be covered, bargin.
