I believe you would be better off buying a ceramic catalytic converter as ceramic is less heat resistant. Stainless steel just looks cool as it changes colour because of the heat. Thats what ive been told any way!

it's under the car...why bother about the colour change?

the steel one is twice the price of the ceramic

More Heat resistant - works upto 1240 degrees in most cases - my dads company produces the Ceramic substrate used by the manufacturers

however if you fear your car will overfuel (older generation cars) use a steel one as 1/4 cup of petrol will destroy a catalytic convertor substrate

you dont need it, take it out completely, i know a MOT station that is rather generous when it comes to giving out certificates.
