Need some advice.
I work at tesco.
I put a holiday form in my managers pigeon hole ages ago, I asked him a couple of days later if he recieved it and he said yes but he hasnt had time to sort it but hel get back to me.
About a month later and I hear nothing, I decided to go above him and speak to the woman in charge of holiday, I told her the situation and she said if my manager didnt get back to me within two weeks then the rule is to assume ive got it and she entered it into the computer system.
Now my manager has rung me up the day before im due to take the holiday saying he never knew anything about it and I cant have it off, I told him what I had done and he is denying ever recieving the form from me and saying that im calling him a liar.
My brother can back me up as he remembers me handing the form in. Ive told him im not coming in what ever happens because I planned it ages ago only now he says its not going down as holiday and hel have me off as AWOL.
Should I try and arrange for someone to cover and then pay them what I owe, or shall I put my foot down, take it as holiday as I am entitled to it and tell him to sort it out himself.

tesco ain't worth it pal, just take the holiday anyway - can't sack you if someone else says you can have the day off plus you got someone else to back you up.

My manager is renowned for being lazy and crap when it comes to sorting holiday, hes always in trouble with his managers. I always have the union to back me up on that aswell. Just didnt really want to have to fall out.

If you've spoken to the holiday woman and she knows about it, it shouldnt be a problem

lol. I used to work at Argos and they wouldn't let you take holiday between July and August (or so they said!) When I asked for the weekend off to go to Trax they said no so I quit on the spot - watch the managers face drop!!!

fuck that. surely your ok to take holiday when you want as long as you give enough notice and there are enough people to cover your shift.
Some employers take the piss

If the managers a spoon it will have already been realised, take the holiday you never know the might just let it go and not say anything to you, if they do take it to the union, you should be fine

i reckon all big retailers have stupid policies like this cos they reckon if one person leaves they can replace them instantly (though this is mostly true)
defo takes the piss though - Argos said that its because this is the busiest time of the year and they need maximum staff......wernt maximum when I quit!

Pull him to one side and politly explain the situation and call witnesses if nessisary.
If you rant and rave you wont get anywhere - appeal to his better nature you might get somewhere!

just speak to your gsm and explain the situation. also keep on about how useless and crap he is.
next time i reckon youd be better off badgering him and sorting it out there and then. i hate all the pigeon hole/message shit in my store as all it does is cause problems

Just ake it off you've spoken to the woman.
And regarding some employers not allowing holiday at certain times its fair enough if they have an especially busy period and have told you a year in advance or whatever

Spoke to the personel manager who recognised that my manager was in the wronged and address him accordingly, telling me to let them handle it
