Well maybe, I didn't actually build it, some contractors did. I reckon someone really cool must of been behind the design of it though

Nobody will know what it is though

The 2 walls leading up to the box structure are an outlet from a flood storage surface water reservoir thats being built. The Dam will cover right up and around all the walls so wont be able to see any of the concrete and the water will flow between the 2 walls. There will be a stone wall sat on top.

The box structure is a hydrobrake chamber. That will be in the middle of the dam so wont be seen either.

Told you it wasn't exciting

that blue hopper you can see in the 2nd pic down has concrete in it and it comes out through the bottom of that and then down into the shuttering. theres a crane holding the hopper in the air and everytime it needs filling it turns round and lowers the hopper down to the concrete wagon.

its quite a smooth finish, but not the best.

when they lift the concrete in the way they have done it the aggregate in the concrete mix gets displaced when they drop it in from the top when it hits the reinforcement bars then you get big air holes.

if they had used a concrete pump they would of got a better finish.

expensive though. thats why the contractors didn't use one cos it was cheaper to use a crane even though we wanted them to use a concrete pump.

shuttering is just big boards basically with steel rods through them holding them together so when the concrete is poured in the middle they don bulge out and fall down.

thats why you see whole through it.

they get it smooth with what us basically a big vibrator ran off a compressor that vibrates and gets all the air out. need to paint the sides with lots of oil before they go up aswell so they dont stick.

smoothness depends on what shutters are made of.

should take a look at scottish parliment building, it has some very impressive shuttered concrete barrel vault ceilings
