Does anyone do this, used to do this , or know anyone who does this?

I'm thinking about a total change of career as i'm bored and fed up at the moment.
I'd like to work outdoors, plus i like to climb trees could handle the physicalities of it (i think).

wondered if there are any downsides, and what pay can be like.
been doing a bit of research on the web, but first hand experience would be usefull if anyone can help out.
cheers

I did that for 2 weeks last year, I helped a mate out as he worked for the council but i didnt have a liscence to use a chainsaw. exellent money in it if you do contracting work. Equipment will set you back though, we hired a tractir with a tree-shredder attachment at the back. Get paid cash in hand too

yeah i'd thought about that.
it's not the current nice weather that's made me think this way.

tbh it's too hot to work comfortably outside at the moment anyway. suppose it'd be rare to have perfect conditions.

Ive got a couple of mates that do this...both make a good living out of it

However both do contract work...one for a local authority, the other for a major (and I mean MAJOR) landowner.

Best do your homework if you are thinking about going on your own

aye.
that wouldn't be for a few years.
i'd need to start low and work up for a few years to get into it.
reckon the local council is a good bet to find out which contractors they use?

Yep

To be honest (no expert here) if you want to do LA work you will need a fair amount of references and a good portfolio...as in any business, I dont think you will earn big £££ unless you are the owner of the business.

If you are new to the game, best bet is to get a few years 'hands on' experience with the company you work for and develop a relationship with your companys client base...

Then do the dirty and rip the company you work for off...sounds shit I know...but it happens all the time
