Hi all just thought id put up some pics of my corsa project on here, as I just got my engine back from BDS engineering in Kent today, after having a full rebuild! Still waiting for the car to come back from the spray booth though so I cant run her in just yet!
Car is a '95 SRI with an X14XE, hoping to be finished early august!

Erm it was BDS Engineering in Edenbridge, Kent that did the rebuild. I gave them the engine fully stripped and cleaned, the block has been rebored, rehoned, the crank has been lightened and balanced, 4 new pistons, new conrod bolts, new shells and ends, new mains, all valves were re machined with new seats and lifters, new oil pump and water pump, head re-surfaced, block assembled including new gaskets and timing belt and tensioners and sump. That cost me £1300 including parts labour and VAT. Alot of money I know, but these guys have been building stock car race engines for 35 years and really know what they are doing when it comes to engines.
As to answer 01DHartley, I've got a K&N for it, the ecotec system has been removed, the upper inlet manifold has been chromed, I've got a decat pipe and a remus straight through centre pipe and a scorpian back box, and I'm having the injectors ultra sonically cleaned soon! So as you can imagine im broke as f*ck!lol!

really? From vauxhall? Because I would guess that they were really pricey. I couldnt really put a price on what I have learned by taking the engine apart etc!

its your money, probably well spent but how they came to that price im not sure. Im in the process of doing a re-build for a mate and all parts inc all new gaskets, seals, bearings, rings, gas flowed head, arp rod bolts, Sbd rollers, will only come to £450

I dunno, we'll see what it drives like, if it doesnt run very nicely i will probably buy a rebuilt X16XE from migweb or something

seems expensive for the power you are going to be making. all sounds like nice work but for that money you could of trebled your horse power

£1300 is cheap for all that rebuild work! £700 on parts so thats cheap labour imo

Seems like alot fo money has been spent, for little to no gain in performance? Appart from the crank being lightened and the displacemnt being increased slightly with the new pistons (are they pocketed or standard?), what other Performance parts are actually going into it?
Also you've seemingly spent money on getting the upper inlet chromed (no mention again of a performance part), but youve bought an exhaust manifold ?!?

was asking for a mate that im doing a rebuild for this weekend, went to my local vaux place and with my trade account they would swop an old engine (excluding ancilliaries) for a brand new one for £1070 inc vat. had some in stock but apparently vaux have sold next to none for months. Ive priced up his rebuild and im charging him £500ish all in inc headwork, arp's and sbd rollers.

yeah true, I didnt spend the money on the rebuild hoping for some whopping performance gain. I just wanted an X14XE that was like brand new, the car was quick enough before the rebuild but had covered 99000 miles and I wasnt going to have all the paintwork done and just leave the engine and hope it would be alright. Thing is I'm a student at university studying motorsport engineering, and I have to travel 30 miles to uni and 30 miles back home again 5 days a week, so a C20XE wouldnt be too practical!
I am well aware of the £70 I spent having the inlet chromed isnt going to see me any performance gain, but £70 is neither here no there when you spend £1300 on a rebuild! However once all the body work is done and the engine is in, I may look at a dbilas or mantzel inlet, but im not sure if that will ruin the fuel economy and the lovely mid range torque!

why not spend the 1300 quid on a newer car therefore not needing a rebuild? total waste of money imo. but each to there own i suppose
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.
