Wot a day i just had. working late on overtime on a monday as we do each monday till eight. theres just me and a mechanic and the foreman there. mechanic has a car on the ramp and asks me to put the lift down onto a bit of wood in below the front suspension of the car to take pressure off it for him to do something. i cant see it so said to him to let me know when to stop. so am going down and next thing i see the car lifting off the rubber legs off the lift. the weight transfers and the car starts to slide, the mechanic runs out from under and the car falls into the middle front first. the legs on the pass side the front one gets stuck below the front wheel stopping it thankfully from nose diving onto the ground. rear leg on pass side rips up the door totally fucking it, damages the 1/4 panel below the moulding badly but repairable and damages the sill.. on the other side the front leg stops the fron wheel again and the rear leg goes into the middle of the car and pushes the floor up like fuck. so we had to go get the forklift to safetly get it down. absolute nitemare. worse again is the car has alreayd been repaired its in for a comeback of some sort for a noise or something and is due out 2moro. not looking forward to work 2moro, gonna be the boot for us 2 or maybe have to pay for the damage to the car...

oih dear, as a mechanic i feel sorry for you, mistakes happen and every mechanic has at least one big fuck up mine being cracking a windscreen by dropping a wiper arm with no wiprer blade on it onto the screen, (i had to pay for it) the thing was i knew better but thought id get away with it

I work at a vw dealer and we had news come through warning us to be extra careful when putting the new golf gti on the ramp as in halifax this happened

The story did ring a bell Worst I done when working at a garage was lowering the car, the radiator was hanging down. I was looking at the rear of the car with two mechanics talking amongst themselves at the front. And the radiator got mangled. £300 odd quid for a new one and they had the cheek to blame me.

theres the problem then. we used to really struggle to get 106's on our 2 post ramp, they were always a bit wobbly

still, at least no one was hurt

I don't think they would sack you over an accident, unless it really was gross neglegance... Tis what insurance is for at least

yeah havent got a copy of my contract but most workshops like that have a clause in it tho if u do x amounts of damage then they can inflict x disciplinery action altho hopefully it wouldnt come to that as me and the manager and foreman have been friends for years and all worked together in a different workshop before this place opened...

ask them why they dont provide you with proper equipment to do your job instead of having to use blocks of wood
