Mate just bought an E36 Evolution, I accompanied him down to Carlisle to pick it up. Fecking nippy isnt the word, pulls like a train in every gear, even cruising at 60 in 6th & flooring it the pickup is astonishing!! Alot of car for £7k - performance bargain I think!!

Got me thinking is there anything (asides rattly conversions + laughing gas) that would be quicker!! I thought my impreza was fast but fuck me this thing just goes!!!

Wanted one of these for a while now.. £7k is pretty cheap to pick one up for though.. Mostly go for between £10-13k for the decent ones.

Edit: just jumped on trader and theres a silver one 6 miles from me for £7k..

From Carlisle?

What colour was it, Dakar Yellow / Estoril Blue

They are the two I have seen knocking around Carlisle.

E36 M3 Evolution is such a quick car 321bhp rear wheel drive fun.

When on work experience back in the school days was at BMW and out in these and E46 M3's every day

colin - it sjust a different power delivery to the impreza.... the are prob just as quick as each other

(m3 should win top end)

My 911 feels like a train.... hits 3-4000 rpm and it goes.... and goes and goes...

The impreza is much more on/off squirty

wait til you go out in an e39 m5 then . m3 evos are very quick though but no way near as good through the twisties as the e46 m3, and tell him to put abit of money aside incase the dual vanos packs up

Thing is that alot of people forget...

It is a performance luxury car. So as well as going fast its not its only goal. It has to have all the toys and be comfy and quiet on the MWay. Its a different kind of performance car to a celica gt4.

They are awesome at what they do IMO, and a fantastic pacakge.

Id have the mroadster over it tho

Haha! I remember our threads on the matter ditch Each to their own, I just frikkin hated mine!!! I still have nightmares where I wake up and think the M3 is still parked in my garage!!!

Other people may love them but it was just a barge Im afraid - What do they weigh about 7 tonnes innit? To be fair thos out of all the M cars the E36 was the worst one, I drove an E46 and that was a different kettle of fish. You dont get a vibe when you just have a quick spin in a car tho, you need to own one for a period of time before you can form a proper opinion I think!

Agree with Jambo tbh. I'd have one for the purpose it's made for, it's not really comparable with a p1 is it stu?

I'd love both

Im not saying its the best car out there & of course the E46 & E39 M5 will be better They cost at least double though. Im just commenting that for a standard 7k car theres not much on the road imo that would beat it.

I doubt your GT4 would beat one in standard form....gtf with your second hand boost controller!!

I understand its totally different power delivery than a impreza, just saying that in gear this would slaughter any impreza ive been in!! wouldnt be far off from standing start also & would pull any lead back in no time!!

Nah, your exactly right!

Different kettle of fish to what I wanted in a car, I just wanted something loud, fast and dangerous for the weekends whereas (as people have said) the M3 is more of a fast, reliable, comfortable tourer.

Jambo's cracked the nail on the head...its a big fast comfy performance car. We were going along at 130 without even noticing it....in an impreza you are fully aware what speed your going!!
