i found a plate i want to buy but my car has no mot or insurance atm as its getting rebuilt and is a bare shell at the moment ive heard i could buy it and put it on retention so that its my plate and nobody else can buy it and the dvla will register it to my car when its back on the road is this true? how much does this cost? many thanks chris

You have a year to register it to a car if its new from the DVLA

its only £25 pound a year to keep you plate on retention.
its £105 to change the reg to another car.

Its only £80 to change it that same day, its £105 to take it off and retain it
