That is very impressive 
I can think of several applications where it would be useful and i'd like to see you carry 40KG on your back for more than 100metres if at all.

Wheels are all always going to be the most steady option i suppose.
I mainly picture it being used in a more 'war-like' setting. i.e. navigating through a mine field better due to less contact with the ground, lol, i dunno, but it has always been scientists ambition to replicate a steady walking movement. I've not seen a descent two-legged one

As for steps etc, it would be far too slow going up or down to be of any use IMO
Good point about minimal footprint area for minefields though, not sure how it would handle with a 'leg' blown off though
