I'm selling a load of old performance bits for my Civic. One of the bits has had quite a bit of interest, and some guy was going to have it for £50 or so (It originally cost me about £110). However, he said he was going to sort out the money tomorrow. Someone else, has since offered me £90 for it. Given that the other guy hasn't paid yet, is it wrong to let the other person have it? What do I tell the other guy?

I'm getting rid of the car, so can't do that. I'm just a bit worried the other guy is going to send the payment.

A difficult one that....

Ive always considered second hand car bits to be 50% of the original value.

Polite E-mail suggesting a split the difference?

Yeah, not only that, but I don't want the person paying the higher price know how much I was letting it go for, although I did initially advertise it for £50

yeah if you agreed on something be genuine about it as it only leads to you getting a bad rep and also being a bit unfair as it may cause problems. I had the same problem before with someone off here and in the end he sold the bit to someone else even though I had sent payment etc It meant problems for me as i needed this part for my car quite urgently.

be a gentleman about the situation see if the other guy is willing to meet half way at least and offer more first.

Well, as said, I emailed him to say that someone has offered far more and that i'd rather sell it for the larger amount as I need the money. He's not replied, so I can't do much yet.

The other guy was buying a few bits and he's ok with it. I think the only reason he was buying the bit concerned is because it was so cheap.

unless he agrees (as you stated above) that it doesnt matter that the item is going for a higher price...

but we must agree on something:

when you are selling something: It's an invitation to make an offer,

when somebody says he would take it for a certain amount, no deal/contract has been made at that point. When you accept his offer, a contract has been made and you are bound by it...unless he withdraws his offer before your acceptance.

But in the present matter, it seems that there has been mutual agreement to terminate the contract (without consideration)

just wanted to write that
