Well if you turn up in a trevved up nova/corsa you won't stand a chance but if you dress smart, act right and appear to actually be able to make a purchase then you should be OK

How old are you? As robbo said if you make out like you may be able to afford it you may get a shot. But dont expect to be on your own and dont expect to be able to give it any beans as they will just tell you to get out and drive it home themselves.

Are we talking garage or private also?

my mate did it in a clapped out volvo 340

he managed to testdrive loads of stuff, BMW's, quick Honda's, pretty much anything he wanted

all because he dressed smart and was confident about doing it

You're also more likely to get a test drive if you are staying faithful to the marque

Well if they take you seriously a salesman will be with you and I doubt they will let you give it any stick.

If you feel confident and you want to then go for it.

If a 17 year old came in to see me wanting to drive a Cupra R, I'd go through the whole deal and everything first off, make sure they actually have means to buy a car, ahve checked insurance and everything etc. so that once theyve experienced the drive, they cant say no. But, tbh, I wouldnt let a 17yr old drive, I'd drive and they could be passenger. Would tell them our insurance doesnt cover them(which I dont think it would anyway).

Very difficult, its going to be clear that you're dreaming unless you basically put your money on the table first. Unless you get a bored salesman who doesn't care who just wants out of the office for half an hour.

The garage could have insurance if they want to sell to young people, but not at the Scoob or Evo garage.

Usually take my Dad along with me if I'm going for a test drive as like to get his opinion on what car I'm looking at.

Only car I haven't been able to take out for a test drive without a salesman was the least powerful car I've test driven - Corsa C 1.2 16v

BMW's, Audi's etc. all let me go out without salesman. I'm 21 though so prob has something to do with it.

it does depend how you act.

But turn up in your corsa and they will laugh.

at 17 they will laugh as well.
