Iv decided to buy a shitter diesel of somesort to use for work, am getting thru far to much petrol in mine.

Any ideas for the best shitter diesel under 800 quid?

Was considering a corsa 1.5d as the main option??? possibility of clio 1.5d?

Also can anyone say from experience that you do save money from running a cheaper to do the mileage for work but keeping the better car to use in my own time?

Lad at work has a 106 1.5D, its a shit car but the mpg is amazing, hardly visits the petrol station. I run a C14NZ corsa instead of the vectra in the week, saves a shit load of money and keeps the mileage down on the vectra

205 TD's are bulletproof. get it.

my boss had one as a daily driver, it had done over 200k miles, and it was still as economical as new.

it'll do about 50mpg

excellent cars them

Might aswell scratch the idea now just rang insurance (Direct Line) and they say they cant add another vehicle on the same policy is this correct?

and will need it own insurance policy, and cant have any no claims bonus included meaning the TPFT quote i got for a ford fiesta mk3 1.8d came out at £600 fuck that

tescos say they also cant have two cars on one policy have to have a seperate policy for both, however after rinign back directline and moaning they said they would include my no cliams for a seperate policy on the fiesta which came out at £270 Fully comp which is a lot cheaper but still not sure if its worth it

i always have a runabout as i do 60 miles a day to work and back, sheffield and back some weekends (200 miles) and 100 miles a week on top going here and there...

i have had 7 run abouts, only 1 was diesel. i found it better to run a petrol

i currently have a 1.6 8v astra mk3 ls (was a 1.4 with a 1.6 engine dropped in for some random reason) that does 125 miles to £10 @92.9ppl

a 1.0 12v corsa that does 120 miles to £10 @ 92.9ppl

a 1.2 16v corsa that does 110 miles to £10 @ 92.9ppl

i had a 1.4 8v astra gls 5 door (heavy car) that did 80 miles to £10 @ 89.9ppl a few months ago - not much better then the bmw!!!

most diesels are 1.6 or more = high tax. and diesel is more to buy

i would say a 1.0 corsa or 1.2 16v, both cheaper then a diesel for parts, still nippy, dont sound and feel as bad as a derv and still give high MPG and cheap tax, cheap to buy and easy to sell on

EDIT - also have a 1.4 golf mk3 which did 100 miles to £10 (but its getting engine fixed)

FYI the diesel I had was a 1.7 astra mk3 with the isuzi lump. did not do very well, only managed 100 miles to £10 @ about 89.9 at the time, but it cost a fucking fortune for engine parts, tax and insurance! never again!
