x16xe, easily tunable, around 106bhp standard. Not too hard to come by either.

With the Nova engine you need a mpi ( multipoint ) fuel pump as with the 1.6 16v conversion so you would need to upgrade the fuel pump regardless! + Nova engine just needs slight mods to wiring apart from that its straight swop! U2U AdamD off here he did a 1.6 8v conversion and found it easy peasy to do!

yeh, the 1.6 8v is a good engine. Rock hard, the older 8v Engines are all bullet proof - if looked after nothing serious usually goes wrong. Also very easy to work on - the 1.6 16v is murder when it's in the bay.

You're going to the trouble of doing a conversion, at least fit something decent in there. How much bhp difference is there between the 1.2 8v and the 1.4? 15bhp? Not worth it...

TBH you're best to sell up and get something that's faster in the first place and comes with more goodies...ie a sport
