Had my bonnet resprayed by the same guy for a second time a few days ago, ive now paid him 200 quid to basically spray a bonnet, now the bonnet is perfect in terms of no mark's etc things like that, but the paint is cloudy IMO and patchy and i can tell even though my mates can't, i know when i go down he will try and make an excuse saying there is nothing he can do or something like that so what grounds do i have legally and what can i say back to him as im not good at standing my ground this way
Thanks Rob.

Has he mopped it or used a cutting compound? That can often reduce the milky effect....
Didn't he do a shite job first time Rob?

first time the paint was spot on, but after a month you could see the weld ove rthe eyebrow a bit and some laquer had started pealing but he said because i only asked him to paint it, its not his fault.
And yes it had mopping dust all over it so i presume he has.

quote: The Supply of Goods and Services Act
If you've hired someone to do some work, your rights are protected by The Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982, which states that someone providing a service must do it:
- With reasonable care and skill.
- In a reasonable time, if you haven't specified a completion date.
- For a reasonable price, if this hasn't been agreed in advance.
This means the trader providing the service has a duty of care to you and your property, and should complete the job in good time and at a reasonable cost, even if you didn't agree a deadline for completion or a final price in advance.
In addition, any goods fitted during the work are covered by the Sale of Goods Act as well, which says they must be:
- of satisfactory quality.
- fit for purpose.
- and as described.
If the service is not in accordance to these standards, you are entitled to get a full or partial refund, replacement or repair.

How would it be his fault then?

Sorry don't get that.
As far as i can see Rob.... you paid him to paint your bonnet originally and then the lacquer peeled off, seeing as applying the lacquer is part of the service you paid for and it has peeled - it appears to me that it is in breach of the Supply of Goods and Services Act because it isn't of satisfactory quality nor fit for purpose as without lacquer the paint is exposed to the elements.

Just went down there, spoke to the guy he work's with as the owner is off sick today but he seemed to see my point and he also said that he thinks it should be perfect too.

Yeah, he wernt there cause his car wasn't and i didnt ring up and say i was coming down so he had know knowledge.
The guy said it looks grainy himself so if the owner come's back and say's to me he cant see anything wrong with him i shall get his partner, i shall also show him what its like in his workshop because its alot more noticable under cover.

Good news, he notcied what i was on about and its going in tomorrow to be re-done, he tried to blend it instead of spraying the whole bonnet which is why it looked patchy, so hes going to redo the whole bonnet for free

just went down, said im not happy with the way the bonnet is, there are light and dark patches under sheltered light but you cant really see them in daylight, drove the car into the bodyshop and he could see them so he said fair enough, bring it down in the morning and we will redo it for you, he said its cause its the first week hes started using water based paint's, he is a reliable person to be fair, my car has never been there longer than a day having stuff done, and today i dropped it off in the morning and it was done for the afternoon
