Im looking into hiring a car in september as im driving from Essex to the lake district on a cycling holiday with some mates so i need something like an estate really. As i think the amount of weight and distance may kill the 1.2 8volt

Looking for something like a vectra estate etc. Anyone know of any companies to try and if they would let me as im 19 and maybe too young in some peoples veiws

Also anyone know of companies to try for weekly insurance policies as failing the hiring idea i could get insured on my rents passat for a week.

any suggestions apreciated

Most places you have to be at least 21 I think... Try people like Avis, Hertz, Enterprise, Sixt, etc.

Hmm forget Avis, just looked at the terms and conditions on their site:

quote:

Minimum age
For rentals within the UK, drivers paying by cash or credit card, must be aged 23 or over and those under 25 will be subject to a Young Driver Surcharge of £11 per day (plus VAT) for the first 10 days of the rental.

£11 a day isnt too bad i supose and an estate would be alot better then an saloon in terms of practicallity for taking bikes etc
Just whether its worth the extra dosh.

Il find out how much the insurance is on my rents car first though

The law in Europe is you have to be over 21 to hire a car. Most places say you have to be about 23 and as ever, it gets cheaper if you are over 25. So in other words you can't rent a car.

Peugeot will rent you a van for £34 a day. I'm not sure on the age requirements, though.

Very few companies will allow car hire at 21.... its mostly 22/23 .... and to be honest if you do find one that will let you rent at 21 then it will probably be a small automatic of some sort
