how much power does your average sized car (1200kg) need to be able to match someting like an R1 in terms of pace?

Too much.

a 125cc bike (say an Aprillia 125cc race rep) will out accelerate the vast majority of cars until it hits the national speed limit

i think the yzf is something like .87bhp per kilo or something stupid, so you'd need like 1044bhp on a 1200kg car, then theres aerodynamics etc

think someone said on here the other day that an r1 will do 0-100 in 5-6 seconds you could probably count on one hand how many road legal cars there are out there that would be able to level or even beaten an r1, seen a fair few vids of high powered supras, corvettes, skylines etc having the edge over bikes that i think were about equal to the r6 though

Poor example though as it's hardly quick for a bike and is not really a sports bike but no doubt your car is quick and would hassle a fair few.
