i have a Hauppauge WinTV USB2 PVR recorder, does a nice job for me..have different setting types and very easy to use on PC

You can also edit anything you record and can record off VHS etc...

now if you need a DVD recorder itself, DO NOT buy Sony (my opinion), a friend had 2 of them and after 6 months, lens were down...had to get them done again and these were different models

Get a panasonic or lite-on with divX capabilities

also Toshibas sell cheap on ebay, i think i saw some going for £60 but this is ebay

wait til hd-dvd recorders get launched over here or a blu-ray recorders. better quality if you will be getting high definition programming or if normal programming you will fit a lot more on one disc. personally i would choose hd-dvd over the blu-ray.
