ok
got some 2nd hand springs of a guy a while back, 2nd hand but new if you know what i mean, the guy never got round to fitting them.

the guy said he had got them off his mate and he couldnt remember how low he said they were.

anyway

finally got round to fitting them, and F*K ME its low, must be a 60mm drop.
looks nice

but speed bump a real pain in the arse.

so im getting side tracked here.

my main question is.......
just got the garage to fit them with the original shocks, just replaced the springs, and cut the bump stop down 13mm (i think).
as i havnt put any differant shocks on could this cause any problems???

In what way are speed bumps a pain in the arse? Your'e bound to get a harsher ride.

Also lowering by more than 30/40mm and using standard shocks isn't recommended as the springs can pop out.

the shocks will be shot within months with springs that short

yeah as CM said your standard shocks arent manufactured to deal with a spring 60mm shorter than a standard one, they'll soon leak/break in some way and you'll have to get new ones.

Also, it will be a shoot ride atm, once you get some proper shocks as long as oyur springs are half decent you'll notice the ride improves a lot and it may even go a little lower

Well my brother corsa we lowered 60mm on standard sport shocks and the springs never attempted to come out and two years later removed them and the shockers still worked very well had no leaks at all etc

we have now replaced them with a full gmax 60mm kit with shoxs and it sits lower and ride quality is better but after a few months the rear passenger shocker has blown so they aint that uprated

gmax probably aren't uprated mate we weren't saying that i was saying if he got proper shocks it would be better gmax are notoriously a budget make which often break in some way...

This article explains lowering on standard shocks quite well..

"Car manufacturers engineer dampers to mach the springs they use. The length of the spring and its stiffness are factors which are taken in to account. When you change either characteristic of a spring the original dampers are no longer 100% compatible.

As with many things a little give and take is perfectly acceptable. When lowering a car by 30mm to 40mm by changing springs alone, the compromises imposed on the damper will make very little difference. A vehicle may be lowered by more than this, but shortened dampers should really be considered. A car lowered by 60mm using shortened springs, but standard dampers is really a bit of a compromise. You couldn’t expect the dampers to last as long under these conditions.

No matter how much you lower a car (even if it were just 20mm) fitting them with matching dampers will give the best results. Matching dampers are deigned to perfectly complement the stiffness and length of the springs they are intended for. You wouldn’t find a motorsport vehicle with mismatched springs and dampers!

There’s one more important benefit of matching spring and damper height. When a vehicle is lifted off the ground, or when the weight is taken off the inside wheels during hard cornering it is possible for short springs on standard length dampers to become unseated. If the lengths were matched properly this would not happen. If a spring becomes unseated during hard cornering and does not reseat correctly the affects could be very dangerous.

To achieve the best in handling and to get the longest life from dampers a matching spring/damper combination should always be used."

think the spring are GMAX there was sticker that came with them but i cant seem to find it

as i oviously dont have a clue when it comes to lowering cars, what sort of shocks do i need to get to go with the springs?
