Basically part of their business includes bodyshop work, they do pretty good work going by their past examples, so I asked him how much they would charge to fix the lower half of all 4 doors (passenger side I tried to respray and really bad colour match - THANKS HALFORDS) and driver side needs panel beating after my slight mishap with an Alfa earlier this year while I was going to a CS meet in Bolton funnily enough...

Anyway, he quoted me £275 and this also includes sorting the scuff marks on the corners of my rear bumper.

Good price you reckon?

Vauxhall quoted me about £340 to do just one side (passenger side)!

Gonna be getting it done before winter as there is some surface rust coming out on the driver's side where the wheel arch is.

Surely all the money you are planning to spend on this and the engine conversion you could buy a mint one or even the newer shape astra?!?

My brother has a mk4 Astra, I don't like them really.

Anyway, where's the fun in buying a car that has everything you want already?

My car pisses me off at times but it's always been reliable, and we've been through a lot of good and bad times together LOL!

Sam, if you are not planning on keeping the car too long, dont bother, the repairs prob wont add that much value to the car

also, save your money and buy a XEV astra auto

lol. i guess so, just an engine conversion will generally come with problems whilst its being ran in and when you eventually do come to sell it it will be much harder as people will be put off by the un originality of it IMO

Well I had a long think about this earlier, I've spent quite a lot of money on it so far in terms of fixing it and add on stuff like exhaust etc. so I'm thinking I might as well make it better than it is and keep it, and mad as it sounds, take it back home with me in 2010.

I am planning on doing the work to my car in stages; interior (leather), bodywork, brakes, suspension, exhaust (getting a bit too loud for my liking now) and then finally engine transplant.
