Doing my A-Level I.T coursework and the question is

"has the introduction of live sports coverage had an effect on attendences at the event"

e.g. has liverpool fc being on sky sports meants that not as many people go to the match.

I have all the necessary info about LFC and their attendences over the last 10 years i just cant find any information on bskyb viewing figures.. its pissing me off to say the least

Anybody give me a link or any help? cheers thanks a lot

p.s. tried all necessary search engines and advanced searches etc.

not sure whether that's gonna be very easy to find, but you can find when Sky started showing the games, and whether attendances have dropped over that time period and then assume from that couldn't you?

Never mind, i think i've just typed bollox, because i assume you need to know which dates LFC were on TV and whether there was any drop in attendance for those games specifically

Is there a generic term for the number of people at the game, like gate revenue or something?

Search Google for 'football filetype:xls'

In fact anything with that filetype thing in there, you get interesting stuff.

you dont need viewing figures, just which games were on tele. Compare those games that were on tele to the same game from previous years and see if the attendence was up or down.

Dont forget to take into account changes in ticket prices, ground expansion, teams success, etc. as these will all effect the attendence aswell.

BTW- Liverpool is a bad choice. It is hugely supported and has a massive waiting list for tickets so even if the game was on Sky there wont be a difference. It would of been best to pick one of the lower Premiership teams or even one in the championship. You'll see a change then!

agreed

the top team like man utd and arsenal iirc have ppl on waiting lists to get seaon tickets and that - so sky wouldnt effect the attendances there.
i think sky has a massive effect for lower teams and u notice lower crowds on weekdays (ppl rather watch it on sky than the ground where its cold and they've not long finished work).

however you have to look at it another way.... i think sky have helped other sports by exposing them.... i.e. womens football. I think the exposure has got to alot of ppl - some of which may have taken a trip down to the event once they have gotten into the sport

pew pew pew pewwwww

Yeah ive changed the whole thesis now on the guidance from you dudes (Y) Changed to Wigan Athletic.

Mainly because the Premiership gets more exposure than the championship and they are a good team to use IMO as they have done well this year and arent as big as West Ham.

Can compare and contrast easily then

Cheers for the help!

they are good as been in both leagues aswell, so can compare the different divisions.

Southampton or Man City would of been good aswell, as were early teams in the Premiership then been up and down so lots of figures for both leagues.
