Got a letter trough the post this morning from a Soliciters saying a owe them £40 for a car parking fine. The date is Saturday 4th March and the time is 0923 - 1145.
It happens to be the same day I bought the car, but I didnt pick the car up till 20: 00.
It says on my logbook, date I became registered keeper 04/03/06. I have no proof I dont think that I picked up the car that night.
Im going to have to pay the £40 me thinks, unless anyone can think of a way to get out of it?

Says I only have 14 days to pay, theres no number to ring or anything.
Its going to be my word against his, and looking at it, looks like he has more of a chance because he has my sig with the date next to it.
Oh well, learnt my lesson, next time I buy a car, Ill get a reciept with the time on it!

I was at work at the time . . . but I was working for my dad, so I cant see that holding well.
But if I remember rightly, he was at work all day and thats why I couldnt collect the car earlier.

No, paid cash that I had out already from the sale of another car. It makes it tricky to prove anything because it was all on the same day.

Yer it was parked in Sainsburys/Morrisons, which is only about 10 miles from me, so is believable that it could of been me.
Although the lad I bought it from lives in Selby.

indeed.
Write them a letter, explain you was in full time employment during this period and your boss can prove this.
Provide them with your dads mobile number.
then go onto explain about what time you purchased the car.

The worst that will happen is they will reply to you and say you still have to pay. At least it's a £40 fine rather than the £60 ones they give round here.
