from what ive seen they look the same, have the same spec as the 1.8t and come with the cupra badge, but they are a 150 bhp 1.9 turbo diesel.

looking for a car for the missus and she likes the cupra but the 1.8t petrol would be wasted on her as she only drives about 4000 miles a year, plus the insurance is HALF on the diesel.

any opinions?

They're absolute beasts, reliable engines, do 65mpg+ on a run, 40 round town and with a remap are as quick as Civic Type R's, Clio Cups etc

So yea, do it

Get an FR+ with CupraR wheels and kit. Or some of the later FR's had Smart Nav in them from new.

65+mpg is a little optimistic, on a run I'd say 55mpg tbh. Takes SEAT's 'combined' figure, generally thats what you'll get on a run in the real world(proper conditions, not a completely flat, open test track!)

Mertin, Ibiza FR is a completely different car, size is a LOT smaller, easily noticeable and the drive of a Leon is a thousand times better, feel much more comforable in one than Ibiza.

my old man hit 77mpg in his fabia which has the pd130 which has not long been run in.

And i dont mean it has 77mpg for a few seconds it was returning 77 for 20 odd miles on the A1

im not calling you a liar, but without experiencing that myself I'd doubt that figure tbh, having had multiple 1st hand experince with a few different 1.9 vw group cars(well, SEATs actually!) And i dont think those trip computers are entirely accurate either

Maybe we'll have to agree to disagree before this gets carried away!

it is significantly bigger. remember my bro in law has a leon. the pushchair bearly fits in his goes in easy to mine. I can get the dog and the pram in no problem.
oh and that pushchair will go in sideways left to right.

I also have more leg room and width to the car.

mine gets 40 round town and 55mpg on the motorway at 70mph. the fabia would easily beat that and the leon would be better aswell.
