And errrrrrrr

What a disapointment!

Apart from the handling (note i said handling not grip) which was great and the brakes the car was terrible to drive! Clutch and gearbox were usless. The steering wheel was fighting it's way out of my hands when pulling away and it wasn't even that quick.

All the hype that surrounds these cars made me excited to be going to test drive one but oh dear.Even my old 106 GTI (Y REG) was a much better drive and overall car.It was an 02 Plate with 30K FSH ans it was from a proper garage not a backstreet shithole.

I was so made up to get back into my 323i coupe! My beemer is IMO quicker too!

The search for a decent car continues..........

Your 323 may feel quicker, but i assure you that it isnt! Put the two car's side by side, then you will see how quick the 172 really is, especially on the 1/4 on 0-100 sprint.

I had a quick blat in a 182 yesterday, though it only lasted a few minutes. Would like a decent drive in one.

No offence intended but that list of cars dont exactly qualify you to write off the hype from journalists/the masses who love the car. You drove it for all off what half an hour tops hardly a basis to form an opinion on a car.

I think your coments are a tad harsh as I've driven a fair few cars in my time and I would say the 172 is somewhat pleasant, driving position is a tad suspect but its a french hot hatch not a Bovairian masterpieace as Jim mentions

I'd confidently say its a league above a 106 GTi hands down Lacks the violent feel that an XE has but looking at it side by side its just as quick. So cant really lack the torque must be a different spread or the fact its more refined than a barn converted valver. Got big respect for these cars since i've had the oportunity to drive one for a while. Same goes for SAxos also I think they are excellent. Also both these cars have a mass following and are regarded as the benchmark of a hot hatch.

But at the end of the day if you dont like a car....you dont like a car.

172's can be tricky, you really have to rev the tits off them to get anywhere, my 182 comes on at 5k almost like a v-tec, admittedly its not lightning quick at low revs, and its very easy yo get caught in the wrong get at the wrong revs, but when you hit the sweet spot it bloody flies!

coming out of my old saxo vts (another cracking car btw!) i find the 182's clutch and gearbox very satisfying, they're heavy, but in a good way imo.

& you have moaned about every single one of them Dont think you will ever find a car you'll be happy with & want to keep!!

On that note ive never drove a 172 or 182, i had a 1.2 16v for 6 months & it was truely awful car - enough to keep me away from renault for a long long time!!

i must say i had a play with one when my car was standard, and i managed to get past him on a duel carriageway, iv also heard many a rumour where people in less powerful cars eg. megane coupe 1.6 16v, where the clio hasnt really managed to leave them, when they should leave them for dead, maybe no 172 drivers can drive? who knows

Also at the strip iv seen some appalling times from them 16+, that goes for the cups too!!

Fad i don't think you got my point..That is just a shortened list of the cars i've OWNED i've driven fuking hundreds of different types.Oh and to be honest i couldn't give a bollocks about what cars journalists/the masses rave about!

People just believe hype most of the time and seem to be brainwashed into what makes a good car.

Oh and Jade..Who are you??? Yeah i've moaned about a COUPLE of cars i've had but not all of them.

My scooby was awsome and i'm probably going to buy another now i have the spare cash.Best car i've ever driven.
