It's my 21st in May and Id like to do something a bit different than just going out and getting pissed.

The best thing I can come up with so far is going to Alton Towers on a saturday, staying the night and going out for a few drinks and then Alton Towers again on a Sunday.

But i seem to remember someone telling me that Alton Towers is in the middle of nowhere and theres nothing to do around it.

Anyone know?

Cheers

yes, alton towers is infact in the middle of the sticks. nothing to do for miles, but you could get a cab out or have a few drinks in the hotel bar. may i reccomend splash landings hotel, where you can go for a swim which is awesome!

sounds like a good fun birthday plan.

It needs to be cheapish too, and from what I can see from the website, entry to the park will be £23 a day so £46 so the cheapest accomodation possible is a must

I think 2 days in Alton Towers is overkill!

I live less than 5 minutes from Alton Towers

My advice would be to go for one day - then stop out at one of the many guest houses and do something different on the sunday - its simply not worth going for two days

and for those who said theres nothing to do - theres plenty to do around here - if you know where and what to head out to!

i work at a travel agents and if i were you i wouldnt stay at any of the atlon towers hotels as is was cost you around £200 for one night.
but there are some good places to stay just outside the park but then you would only be able to go to the local pubs around alton towers. but it does sound like a very good bday - fun!! lol

ffs there are such things as Taxis, you are not tied to a local pub; albeit theres nothing wrong with going on a pub crawl - there are 6 pubs in walking distance from my house- in a village of less than 250 people!

of the three closest towns to Alton Towers - Leek, Ashbourne, Cheadle (all within 10 miles) Leek was in the Guiness book of records for years as having the most pubs/bars and licensed premises in a square mile

Ashbournes got some really classy places to head out to as well

Cheadle I don't know a lot about-although BubbleVaux will know

I went last year with a big group of us, around 12 i believe and were doing the same this year - probably next month.

My mate organised it last year and we went up on the weds morning and cam back thursday evening (champions league final).

Cost a total of £70 p/p which included unlimited entry to the splash landings waterpark, bed and breakfast and early entry to the park (an hour b4 everyone else).

Works out at around £80 this year so were going next month. We chilled in the hotel bar and watched the football and got hammered great game as well watching it with others there.

Regarding location its in the middle of knowhere!!!

Where did you book this through?

I get discount on the actual entry to the park, can get tickets for £19.50 each so £39 for two days, just need to find a cheap hotel to crash in

I'd only do one day in alton towers personally then stay somewhere outside of it. It's ok but make sure you outside kids holidays and not on weekend or it's rediculously busy.

6 of us stayed in a huggeeee room with 2 bathrooms, so that was why it was so cheap, couple of others took their gf's and had to pay for a double room which was around £120 i belive.

We booked it as a group thing through the splash landings hotel over the phone.

B&B's maybe an idea around the area and just drive up the next day, or stay with lee

Well ill be going on the bank holiday weekend at the end of May so it will be busy.

It seems like a lot of my mates have exams etc so a weekend somewhere is out of the question.

Going to look into quad biking etc for the day
