Selling something on www.e36coupe.co.uk.
And the guy wants my bank details so that he can forward the money into my bank account.
Is this a wise thing for me to give him or not?
cheers

i have done it before, but not just anyone, would only give your sort code and account number, as this is the information at the bottom of a cheque anyway.

yeah, account number and sort code is fine to give out, little you can do with it really.
Just make sure he is reliable. Has he been a member long, well known, made other sales?

Or would it be safer transferring the money into paypal?

For him to pay money into your account all he needs is the account number and sort code. He can do nothing else with these.

The guy who was buying my thing from me on the e36coupe.co.uk has just phoned me and told me that he's transferred the funds into my account.
He said it would take a couple of days for it to appear on my bank statement.
Is this true?

yeah, if its a different bank to yours will take 4-5days to clear normally. Sometimes shows up sooner but cant get at it yet.

You have the exact same details on the bottom of your cheques from your cheque book - there's no difference in emailing them to someone or giving them a cheque - contain the same info.

I bought an Amp and the guy asked for a wire transfer - turned out to be faster and easier than a cheque, and I didn't have to find the cheque book, write it out, post it etc etc etc.
