Am i correct in thinking Arsenal didn't have a single English player on the pitch during both games against Real?
So that would mean Real, a Spanish team, had more English players on the field than Arsenal?
Disgusting.

Indeed they are, but I think its academy players, not necessarily home grown.

It's a sad and sorry state of affairs though when an English team don't have a single English player on the field. It's even worse when the foreign opposition do
Even if you do support them, you must admit it does nothing for the English game.

I think in the Champions League all English teams should have 3 English players playing. Same for the Italians, Germans etc etc
It would make the games much more interesting and it would also help the English Premiership and future youngsters coming through because as it stands they have no hope!

ruining the game though.young home grown lads arent getting there chance as foreign managers prefer to play foreign players.
im a rangers man,not doing well this season rite enough but we have a promising squad for next year
out of the 11 players on the line up 6 of them is Scottish average age of 22 ish.
Better bringing through your own players then they play for the jersey.
fair enough it wont work out and be good over night u have to take the good with the bad.
Rangers in the last 8 of champions leage next year

Normally there would have been two english people playing which is not exaclty miles less than some other teams
I laugh at the way people think because the Arsenal youth players don't play in the Arsenal side then they are doing nothing - no its just they are not the best in the world so what happens - they go and play in other teams in the premiership so they are still contributing.
In the TOP teams in the world you look at how many players have come through thier Youth scheme I think you will find the numbers are VERY slim.
Also does not help that UK players are generally overpriced, get a good English youngster and hes suddenly worth millions - or a player way better and costs a fraction. hmm its not rocket science who is going to get signed.
corsa_godfather -> Thats nice to hear you have lots of young scottish - so you recon these would go on to be the best in the world then, if you had the money you would still play then and not go out and buy players?

Rob_quads >> teams cant go on spending millions and millions on players, year after year .that will stop eventually.
And yes i think the home grown players have more respect and fight for there team, instead of some south american whos came to a club that cant even speak english half the time.
Graham > Le guen will be getting between £15m- £20m
I can guarentee you that he will replace 3 maye 4 of the first team players. Its not going to be a total wipe out old team out,new team in.
How do you think the foreign players have became good???because like of River plate, boca junors, gremio etc dont sign lots of english, french players etc there all home grown players then they move on to bigger European teams. So why cant English/scottish lads get the same chance?

I agree clubs are already and have stopped spending mega bucks - that is definatly something you can't accuse Arsenal of. Yes they have the odd big purchase but excluding them alot of people playing in the current squad were brought through reserves i.e. Senderos, Fabregas (although ended up playing much earlier than expected) .
Arsenal at the moment are a business MAKING money they they are able to continue with thier current spending plans (including the cost of the stadium) so there is nothing wrong with them buy the odd big player.
If the money was there I am SURE Rangers would spend it - All this talk of thier recent sponsorship deal 18M - questions of whether this would go to transfers already.
To say those players have less passion than the UK born players is just silly. The fact is sport as a whole in the UK is loosing passion be it footy, cricket etc.
