Looks like Chelsea are set to get Ballack...here

They definitly dont need him, and are obviously only signing him so Utd, Arsenal and Real dont get their hands on him. They did the same with SWP to keep him away from Liverpool and Arsenal, and put an inflated bid in for Simao to stop Liverpool getting him in January.

I dont mind Chelsea buying the best players if they need them, but what they are doing now is just keeping the best players away from everyone else and creating a totally one sided league. They arent winning things through just having a good team anymore!

This is when it's a shame, although I was just talking to mate about joe cole in this light, if people who are at that standard aren't getting a regular game surely they will start thinking about medals, national selection etc and hopefully money won't be able to tempt them all there

well I would of thought that, but SWP is a prime example of this not being true. He knew Chelsea already had Robben and Duff on the wings (along with others), so knew he wouldnt play week in week out that someone of his experience and age needs to develop. But he still decided to go there instead of holding out and going to another club.

Ballack will do exactly the same. He plays the same position as Lampard, so unless he is going to totally change his game to go there he is still at best going to be a ever other week kind of player.

THought this would happen, they are going to end up like Real, with unhappy players wanting to leave, no matter how comfy the bench is. I cant see anyone else going there who wants to play regular football.

it will change, just would of hoped that the experience of SWP would of been the last one, but obviously not!

Theo ended up being a nice change, but Arsenal still paid well over the odds because Chelsea were sniffing about and Southampton knew this!

they'll still beable to attract the really big names who will hold down a regular place (unless someone else excellent is already in their position...Ballack and Lampard!), its just the younger, up and coming players who would be stupid to go there.

As with Essien, when Man U were interested he was £12m. TBH clubs will see chelsea coming and get what they can out of them. The money crazyness thing in football has just been taken to the next level.

Agreed andy

And greg it must be so good supporting a team you know is killing off the rest of the league I would totally understand you being happy if you didn't already have a player who has missed about 2 games ever in his place, there's no excitement to an equally good player always being sat in reserve it's gettig a bit dull now.

I think that Lehmann, Jens will persuade Ballack, Michael to join Arsenal.

Man utd have been doing thios for years aswell, only l;ast few years have Chelsea been able to compete financially.
They only signed forlan, Kelberson to stop other clubs getting them, im not saying they were any good but they could have done well at a so called 'lesser' club as they are doing now.

Utd never did this to the extent Chelsea are. I mean they only bought Forlan and Kleberson as they thought they were good players (or could be) and could add to the squad, it wasnt just to stop others getting them. There is a difference in being able to out bid other teams for players you need (as Utd) rather than outbidding for players you dont need just to stop other teams buying them.

eyes are open, but I cant name one player in England who was bought by a top club solely to stop any other team buying them...other than by Chelsea.

You mentioned Forlan and Kleberson, but they were bought to add to the team. Yeah they paid over the odds to beat other teams to them, but they werent bought just so they couldnt go to Arsenal or Liverpool.

Name another player at a top club who was just bought to keep them away from someone else?
