Put my car up in the local paper about 2 or 3 weeks ago and sold it to some woman who bought it for her daughter. She spotted the mayo under the cap and told her it was due to only driving small distances and condensation was the cause - which it was. When i first got the car it had the mayo there but cleared up by summer time and came back again (none in the coolant tank or any other of the headgasket failure symptoms.

Anyway, she gave me £100 deposit but she had to go up to the city centre to get the rest, i drove the car to her house - got the remaining money and sorted out the V5. She dropped me off home and about 10 minutes later she was knocking on the door saying the temperature gauge wasnt working - which it was. Went back inside and not even a minute later there was another knock and it was her saying she couldnt get it in reverse (with it being lift-up reverse she werent used to it) i showed her how and left it at that but joked with people saying she might come back later on in the summer with a problem with it

This morning at college i phoned my mum and she said the woman rang back up and accused me of selling the car knowing it had a headgasket problem. My mum had a go at her and hung up then went on to ring trading standards to seek advice to which they said "Under sales of goods Act, it was a private transaction and as long as it was what you said as described, there is no problem".

So now i'm gonna wait and see if she rings back later and have abit of fun

Not your problem anymore. She owns the car now. If you were a trader it would probably be another matter but your not

Anyone would be pissed off if the head gasket goes 2 weeks after buying it...

But like you say, you only took it as condensation, stupid risk to just buy a car withought giving it a good check over... her problem she handed the money over and was happy.. deal is done and dusted

On a private sale always write on your reciept, sold as tried, tested and seen. No comback at all then. Tell them to fuck off

some people prefer to do it that way with a reciept as its a safe deal, but the going rule is once you shake hands or the car leaves the premises were its been sold, its no longer nothing to do with you,no need to panic, just tell her to do one m8i

There was some on the underside of the rockercover and it would look like i was hiding something if i just wiped the cap.

did you read what i stated above? You cant diagnose a headgasket problem by mayo on and around the cap.
