I know all the pro's and con's and why i need to do my uni work but i still can never get it done the day before the deadline (wen there is pressure to do it)
The thing is the work is alot harder now and i know its not possible to leave untill the last minute. But still can't get started on it.

Anyone been in similiar situation and found a way to motivate them selves?
I think it stems from not knowing what i actually want to do as a career as i have nothing to aim for. Tried going to careers but i find them patronising and useless.

I am always like that with my college work.

Not found a way to motivate myself so far

Always put it off as long as I can. Too boring doing college work

careers interviews were pointless, they drew no conclusions, and i ended up not listening and fantasising over the woman interviewing me

however, the way i got on with my work was to have all the resources i needed to hand, and take regular breaks,
AND NOT ON CORSA SPORT

i did 70% of my assignment, spending all day in the business room, so i had access to the teacher whenever i needed help, even if that meant interrupting him teaching a class

Yes, i've been the same all my life, but i'm 22 now with a part-time job, i know i need to sort myself out but it isn't enough. It's as though my brain isn't attached to my behaviour!

I'm only doing my college course cos I have to as part of my apprenticeship at work.

I would much rather be at work 5 days a week instead of having to go into college one of the days. Only got to go to college till summer then its over and I'll have my HNC.

And I'm not doing a degree after that

I thought maybe you would have something constructive to say since you have studied at a higher level and had deadlines to meet? Any advice regarding motivation?

^^ this sums me up my life at the moment up in a nutshell.

I can't leave work till the last minute now - as it's far too hard, and requires to be started well over a week before it's due in. But yet - I sit here at my pc, and rarely make any progress at all. Distracted by Tv, friends, msn, corsasport etc.

Take last night, my mates were going out - I said I had to stay in to do this work (as I really am getting worried about the amount we're gonna get soon). So I stay in, they come back pissed about 2am - and what have I got to show for my time I could've been out? not much

I also think my lack of motivation stems from having no actual idea what I want to do with my life. The course I'm doing just bores me (Computer Science), I hate most of the people on my course because of the way they are and where they all seem to have a passion for it and bum computers - I do not.

I'm trying to find a work placement for next year - but It's quite hard to go to interviews and act like you absolutely love the subject, when in reality you'd prefere to be doing anything else lol. Many a day passes by where I think 'why didn't I just choose an easy course at uni, like geography or I.T.' get a 1st and then do something else.

I have some CAD to do. I can't do it during the day. I like working at night.... I think that if I go to the computer lab at midnight tonight I will have it done in about 2 hours.... I have tried doing it in the day, it's too noisy and I don't like people.

I have some other reports to write. I'll do them a day before they need to be handed in. Pressure is the best form of motivation for me. If I have a 3 month deadline on something I'll give myself a day to do it. Always have done always will do.

But ed, don't you ever get work that requires more than 24 hours to do?

I had some programming work a while ago that I must of been sitting at my pc almost 48 + hours straight trying to solve.

This is what annoys me with my house mates, they all have just essays to write - and at the end of the day yes it can be a pain, and yes you have to research - but you start the essay and if it's 1500 words or more, you just write the required amount and finish.

When writing the essay you know eventually you will end.

In programming assignments (well the ones we've been getting lately) generally it's more like problem / puzzle solving in a metaphoric way.

So you may sit and try to work on a problem and never get the thing to work or You may try to get it to work and get it to work in a couple of hours.

We have project work. That tales a while, especially as we are in the forst year and have to put up with the morons who haven't dropped out yet. Things can take a while, however, my group is about 2 weeks ahead of the rest.

I've done this a few times, its well annoying. I started not even worring about it till last minute and then doing it as i knew i'd end up doing it then but i can't do this now. I have to do esseys that require a lot more research, ie finding existing research and critically analysising them. so far this year i haven't produced any work over 50% i could maybe carry on the same, but if i end up with a third i will feel i've just wasted 3 years.

I have no motivation now, i always put things off until last minute, same as how i was at work, but the thing that got me motivated then was thinking i aint wasting 2 years for nothing

Sounds like you're in the same position as me mate. I'm on an apprenticeship, in my second year of college, getting so behind on my college work at the minute, but still I can't seem to get my head down and actually do some of it

I also have the option of HNC if/when I pass my college BTEC, and as much as I'd like to have the qualification under my belt, I don't think I could hack it. People tell me it's harder than college, stricter deadlines, harder work etc. I can't be bothered to do my college work, doubt I'll bother attempting the HNC!

Other thing that gets me down a bit is my mate on the same course as me can seem to just get his head down and do an assignment, I just can't do that!

When I go to college I can't motivate myself to do anything, usually end up just browsing the net, talking to mates etc, and generally not making any progress with my work at all.

You should try being on a course where two months into your final term they email you with a list of things they expect you to do for the finals. Really helpful that.

I give up. Roll on employment.
