I have heard that the Mk4 Golfs shouldn't be fitted with dump valves due to the type of turbo they use, is this true??

There have been a few discussions on this subject on here.
Theres always those for an against it.
If its got a vta and you don't want it just put a recirc on when you buy it.

Yeah I don't want it, just need to know if it will have done any damage to the engine? Is the main thing as they aren't to hard to remove.

Well you'll still have to wait for jr etc to post because I don't know for sure but from what I've read it won't have.
According to some it just makes it run funny till you take it off.
Stua3turbo always says its caused no problems to his a3 though iirc.

yes, the car has a drive by wire system with very sensitive MAF sensors, a Dump Valve will cause the car to run in limp home mode

So Steve, Once you've removed it will you have to just reset the ECU? or will it automatically stop the limp mode once removed?

Here we go again.........

Jase, they work fine and the only downside is they dont offer the best performance compared to a recirc. It wont be an issue if its had one but it depends where its fitted as they dont tend to work in the standard position. If it has been fitted where the stock recirc was, then its a straight forward replacement for recirc however if it has been fitted over on the intercooler pipe then you may need to replace the ic pipe (tis a bitch to fit). Id need to see pics of where its located first tho.

the only reason to get non re-circ would be for the noise right but since they arent "supposed" to good for the car why not fit an induction kit for wastegate chatter instead?

Not worth buying an induction kit, does fuck all for performance on them and can also cause MAF sensor problems if the filters are over oiled. Also you wont hear wastegate chatter.

are you sure you wont hear it? only reason i suggested it was because when i fitted one to my mums astra turbo the chatter was very loud.

i had an induction kit with standard recirc on the audi and you could hear a flutter, due to the standard recirc being fucked. When i replaced it with an aftermarket recirc you could not hear much at all other than a little rush of air, no flutter or chatter. I can only go by my experiences and of those that i know that have done similar, ive never heard wastegate chatter, i was always under the impression you needed an external wastegate to be able to hear that properly. If you can hear a flutter, id suggest you make sure the standard recirc is working properly.
