what car?
neither a rover 214 nor a 106 rallye fit into the fast road car category imo. you'll be mixing it up with porsches and 'raris whizzing past you non stop.

i'd rather be at the quick end of the slow group than the slow end of the fast group

Seriously considering it'd be your first track day and your car is basically a standard road car on road tyres - I'd definately go for the normal group.

The other group will be full of caterhams, porsches, really souped up cars etc, running on cut slicks and most probably done many a track day.

I've done 4 track days so far, and it sucks when you constantly have to look in your mirrors, see really fast cars catch you up and want to pass.

You have to pull over to the right on the straight, come off line (and it just feels a lot of pressure)

In future track days I'm looking forward to going with PGAC / SSC and just having similar cars to play with

So say I'm a 35 year old man, loads of money and want to do a track day. I buy a quick car and suddenly become a pro?

Just because it's a novice day doesn't mean it'll be full of slow cars and young people.

At donnington I went out in the novice session and my car was one of the slowest out there, I had originally thought of going in the medium session - but that was full of loads of quick cars!

and the pro session was full of track cars / race cars doing pre-season testing and stuff.

Seriously, if you want to go out in the quick session have fun honestly, though I did a track day at goodwood last weekend and it was the most fun I've had on track as each car was very similar, catching people up and passing them without constantly having to pull off line and worry about some dick in a cossie spining off next to me lol.

brands that first bend after the straight looks fucking scary

My next track day is castle combe. Out with the PGAC lot. You should come out with us since your a pug.

Easy mate, was only really referring to the fact you said 'really souped up cars etc, running on cut slicks and most probably done many a track day.' considerig its a novice day I cant see why they would have done many before.

Where is castle combe?

Define fast cars / define slow shitters.

I was overtaking cars that were quicker than mine, infact some far quicker - but carrying speed through the bends far better. Goodwood is a testing track since a lot of the bends can be taken without really braking!! but it's fucking scary to do and you have to keep committed.

To be honest, I've not been to a track day and seen any slow 'shitters' - Slowest I've seen is 106 Rallye / 106 Gti.

Fast cars imo is caterhams, evo's etc - You won't be 'chasing them' you'll be being lapped by them. They will get frustrated at you, who is A ) a mobile shicane and B ) 'a slow shitter' in their eyes.

I was over taking Impreza's MR2 Turbos and like vehicles at silverstone.

Any car is fast if the driver is good... any car is shit if the driver is crap!

I dont see why everyone in on thier fucking high horses!

I think james car could be classed as fast road as i think it could be a very good car on track where as a 1.25 fiesta might not be!

What would? a 106 Rallye chasing evos?

no offence to the rallye, they're top cars and pretty nippy for what they are - but they are nothing compared to a TVR ??

End of the day, if you want to go out on your first ever track day in what I assume is a completely standard 106 rallye and go into the quick session, be my guest. I was just trying to offer some actual advice, based on real experiences - not playstation games rob.
