Is it possible to get a below average milage (94-98) scoob for the above price? Ive heard that around 50k the engines need a rebuild or replacing is this true?

They're a risk at the price, from what I can gather you need half as much again in reserve in case it goes pop, and they're not cheap to insure or fuel.

you wont get much of an STi for that price.

Rebuilds at 50k... bullshit. The engine needs rebuilt when it needs rebuilt. 20k miles, 60k miles, 100kmiles .... whenever.
Good care, and regular servicing help!

You could prob pick up an ok WRX for 4k on a 95'ish plate

I own a Scooby.....

Yes they can be a very expensive car if things dont go right.
My engine let go last August after 83000 miles. No warnings or tell tale signs just a bit of a bang.
Have gone down the route of a brand new block direct from Japan and lots of other bits at the same time. Its currently being set up and mapped after i have done 1500 miles running it in.
Since august ive spent £6500 on it and still got the last bill to pay for set up and ecu map etc which could be up to £1500.
The car is worth £8000 so you may think im mad but its one hell of a car.
I know ive spent what its worth on it but i could rip the car to bits and sell everyting off it for near on £12,000 if i want to.
Petrol is the biggest gripe, running 550cc injectors and uprated fuel management system means ill get between 180 and 200 miles to a tank (£55)
If you want to know anything else about them give me a shout.
