Im coming into a bit of money at the end of the month and just wondered what you guys would recommend. Giving the sri to the missus and want something in a 1.6. needs to be nippy for its engine size. I'm drawn to the mk4 polo gti, pug 106 gti. something like that. Ive got £7000 tops to play with (inheritence). never had a car newer than an N reg (unfortunately) any thoughts???

thought about them theyre a 2.0 which wont matter too much on my insurance as ive got online qoutes of around £700. the only thing is im just unsure about what to get cus it needs to be reliable and i have no experience in what to look for in a newish car. whats the bhp on a 172 are they just as much fun in a straight line too?

true, its pretty harsh paying rent on a place (wasted mony etc.) but this is a kind of treat as ive always promised myself a new car. your wisdom is noted but i'd still have ample for a mortgage deposit. (just lol)

Clio 172- 172 bhp
Clio 182- 182 bhp
Speak to Brad on here, he has just replaced his Corsa C20XE with a Clio 172 and was pleasantly surprised

For 7K though certainly have a look round for what you can get.
Lots of people on here are now going for the Astra Coupes.

I'd have an Astra Coupe over any french car. You might be able to get one with 7k too

I will never have a french car, parents, friends and girlfriend have had or do own them and always been trouble.
Mark - yeah I've been to a few of them. They are ok but full of the usual fibreglass rubbish and one or 2 tastefully modded cars

Afraid not Alex, the 172 and 182 stands for PS so it isnt BHP. 172 is about 170bhp and 182 is about 179bhp

Yeah they are nice. I'm dont think the 0-60 is that good but I've never driven one so dont know what they go like. I love the look of them though. Especially black ones on coilovers. Nice and subtle

Most newish second hand cars for 7k cars should be pretty reliable mate get one with a warranty if you're worried I wouldn't personally spend 7k on a polo gti.

most polo gti's ive seen are bout 5995 below 40k miles, that sound reasonable. i love the pug 106 gti's but ive heard sotries of them being extremely flimsy in accidents and id like to keep my legs in the worst event lol
