Yesterday I applied for a job at a competing company! Today the company i applied with called my current boss to inform him of this action. I then got fired...
Oh, and I didn't get the job!

But yes in certain industries you will have a clause in your contract that says you cannot go work for a competitor for x amount of time otherwise you can be dismissed as unfortunately on this occasion, our Danish friend here has.

I remember when I used to work at an IT company in Reading I had that written in my contract, was also a crap job!

well if it doesnt depending on how long you have been working for them and depending on the law in your country you might be able to do them for unfair dismisal.
