Found out last week it had a knackered drive shaft, ordered second hand one online. Awaiting delivery of it...
Went to get 4 new tyres fitted today. Tyre fitter jacked car up and front wheel almost fell off. It just slumped and twisted as the car went up in the air.
Got tyres changed anyway and thought i'd best go around to see my mechanic. Asked him to take a quick look at it and he drove it about 5 yards before stopping, getting out and asking me wtf i had done to it...
Told him it had been getting worse all week and i was wating for new driveshaft to be delivered.. He got back in car, reversed it into his garage and told me to go home..
He suspects driveshaft is fucked, bearings are fucked, suspension mounting is fucked and possibly the hub could be fucked.
On a positive note though, she still sounds awsome...

Domino effect
Your bearing start going, then you'll know about it long before the rest occurs
Suprised you didnt take no notice of the dodgy vibrations and noise from the front

I did. It was in a different garage last week who identified knackered drive shaft. They said that the car was safe to drive down to Northampton last weekend.
Obviously incompetent.
Hence i took it to a different garage today who are clearly less incompetent.

my gearstick vibrates in fourth gear under load, the mechanic i took it to said it is the drive shafts, is this likely to be right?

Got her back today..
Hub and bearing replaced.
The bearing had went and because i carried on driving it (having been advised it was safe to do so), it had ruined the hub. Ordered replacement hub off eBay for £50 and it came today. Took it straight down to garage and got it all fitted. £130 to buy the bearing and get the parts fitted.. So £180 all in for the repair.
However, due to the original garage's incompetence i've now got a driveshaft that wasn't required and a local Vauxhall dealership that cannot spot a fucked wheel bearing when it's so badly fucked that it has ruined the hub.

Unfortunately they didn't charge me anything though as they were unable to 'road test' it due to borderline illegal rear tyres. Although they did say that they had inspected it and drove it around the forecourt and couldn't fault it other than the loose exhaust heatshield..
