i stayed at the holiday inn near the metro center, cost about £70 for a 3 person room. Was about £7 taxin into town.
Think there was another one in town but it had no parking.

way too far away, formula one motel at kingston park, £21 per night, minging hotel but very cheap. if you want something nicer then go for the hilton, sometimes you can get discounts for weekend only stays if you book enough in advance. newcastle is a cracking nite out.

Right decided, we're going to play it safe and get a travel lodge. What is the nearest travellodge to the night life?

This is the closest one. Its right opposite the picture and piano which is always good to start off for a few ales during the day and only 2 minute walk from the main quayside bars. From there you can walk up to the "trendy" bars (Apartment, Attic, Lodge etc) or walk a bit further to the bigg market to sample some of the younger delights. Higher up again is The Gate which is really good or the station area where there are also some good bars (but not really for a big night out in my opinion) Digital night club is at the end of the train station and is the best club in Newcastle for dance.
Let me know if you need a hand with any directions or anything.

baja is pretty good, try blu bambu next time, the standard of birds tend to be better, but still just as easy to get a shag
