thought i would post up the results of my latest test. seeing as i do the exact same 30 mile route back and forth to work everyday i decided to test my mpg.

car is a corsa gsi on throttle bodies running approx 165 bhp. mainly dual carriageways, bit of motorways and country roads.

the results:

supermarket petrol:

23 litres (£20) driving economically got me 153 miles
23 litres (£20) accelerating hard and driving faster on the motorway got me 145 miles

optimax petrol:

23 litres (£22) driving economically got me 165 miles
23 litres (£22) accelerating hard and driving faster on the motorway got me 160 miles

in total, with cheap fuel i got 29.45 mpg @7.45p per mile

with optimax i got 32.12 mpg @ 7.38p per mile

so you do get more miles for the same amount of petrol with optimax type fuels, and the car does feel a lot better and it idles a lot smoother with no pinking.

in conclusion:

my car ran smoother, performed better, got better mpg and was cheaper to run on optimax despite the extra 8p per litre at the pump.

I found this on my 172, well worth paying the extra for optimax - feels much smoother as well

How can this be accurate? Did you run it until it ran out of fuel?
