Cus its normally going out of date , pubs can buy "reduced to clear" stock that is passing the sale/use buy date and thats why.

so can they just swap to the barrels to the cheap shit for certain nights then?
I didn't think you can water it down but i always wondered why it seems to taste shit in the cheaper places. I'd rather go somewhere a bit dearer and go for a pint of grolsch, seems you get a better pint that way.

Yeah as mentioned this is how weatherspoons work , they have contracts and buy the cheaper barrels going off and sell them at a quid a pint and dont make much if any profit but they bring people in and they make a profit on the other drinks they sell.

It would be hard to mix water as the pipes run straght from the barrel to the pumps and you would have to instal a system that filters water into the pipe as you pull the pump.

Wetherspoons buy beer that's relatively near it's sellby date, not that's going off. It's got to be at least a month away from it's sellby date, IIRC.

Pints in Wetherspoons always taste shite. I've started always drinking from bottles when I drink there (tho they're probably bought in cheap near thier end date too, right?)

Pubs can water the beer down... a mate was telling me his mate from work was asked by a local pub if he could re do the piping in the sellar for them.... when he got there he was like 'what's these ones for then, you don't need them?' they told him it was to water the beer down... they gave him a number of pints to keep quiet plus the money for the job
